Always start out by asking what error message they are getting, if any.
Lost 2FA Code Generator
Solution
- First have them check if they are still logged in on a different device.
- If yes, tell them to submit a staff PM and a
Mod+
will reply to the 2FA PM when possible. - If not, contact a
Mod+
as they will need to manually disable 2FA for the user.
"Invalid code" error
Solution
- First make sure, the code is labeled "BTN" in their authenticator app.
- Make sure they are entering the code without any spaces. They should enter "123456", not "123 456".
- Have them check if the clock on their phone and computer is current.
- On Android, the Google Authenticator app provides a "resync" option in the settings.
